President / Principal Surveyor
Jason began his surveying career in the United States Marine Corps as a Geodetic Surveyor. He attended the Basic Geodetic Survey course at the Defense Mapping School in Fort Belvoir, VA in 1990 and then proceeded to various duty stations including Camp Lejeune, NC, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Okinawa, Japan with a trip to Saudi Arabia mixed in there to participate in Operation Desert Shield / Storm. Jason returned to Fort Belvoir to attend the Advanced Geodetic Survey course and stayed on to be an instructor in the Basic Geodetic Survey course for 3 years. From there, Jason was accepted into the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program where he attended Auburn University and earned a degree in Civil Engineering and a commission as an Officer in the Marine Corps. After three years as a Ground Intelligence Officer, Jason transitioned to civilian work with a brief sabbatical as a District Manager for a major auto parts chain. Jason then returned to his first passion of land surveying. The time as a retail manager gives Jason a unique perspective on the needs of his commercial clients. After obtaining his professional survey license in four states and years of civilian experience, he decided to open Bailey Land Group with his wife, Karen. Jason is a member of the Alabama Society of Professional Land Surveyors (ASPLS) and has been the President of the Greater Birmingham Chapter, District Director for District 5 (Birmingham), Vice-President, President Elect and President of the society.
Vice-President / Principal Engineer
Karen began her engineering career after graduating from High School at the American School of the Hague in The Netherlands by enrolling at Auburn University as a Civil Engineering major. Karen has over 14 years of experience in land development having worked in both the construction and construction material manufacturing industry and the engineering design industry. Karen's project experience is diverse and includes: commercial/retail (big box, drive-thru, office buildings, retail centers, etc.), institutional (schools, health care, etc.), industrial (warehouse, quarry, etc.), and residential (subdivisions and single lot). Karen has proven client relationship skills and strives to understand all of her clients' goals for their projects in order to better tailor her services to meet her clients' needs and the needs of their projects. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and can help clients implement sustainable site design practices on their projects. Karen is currently a licensed Professional Engineer in Alabama and eight (8) other states and has obtained her NCEES Record in order to streamline her Professional Registration process in other states. Karen is or has been a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Commercial Real Estate Club of Birmingham (CREC) and Birmingham CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women). Karen is an active member and was the 2012 President of The Charity League, Inc., a service and fundraising organization dedicated to serving children with speech and hearing impairments.
